US: Second Indian-American Purdue University student found dead in a week

An Indian-American Purdue University student who was pursuing a doctorate in mechanical engineering was discovered dead in a nature preserve on Monday evening, the Warren County Coroner’s office reported.
The student, Sameer Kamath, 23, had completed his master’s degree in the same field from Purdue University in August 2023 and held a U.S. citizenship, the coroner’s office confirmed.
The body of Kamath was located around 5 p.m. Monday at the Crow’s Grove Nature Preserve, which is part of the Niches Land Trust at 3300 North Warren County Road 50 West, in Williamsport.

Warren County Coroner Justin Brummett issued a news release on Tuesday afternoon with these details.
The death of Kamath, an Indian student at Purdue University, has sparked a probe by the local authorities. The Warren County Coroner’s Office and the sheriff’s office are looking into the circumstances that led to his demise. A post-mortem examination was planned for Tuesday afternoon (local time) in Crawfordsville, a nearby city.
Kamath’s death is the latest in a series of unfortunate incidents involving Indian students in the US. Just last month, another Purdue student, Neel Acharya, was found dead on campus after he went missing for several days. Acharya was pursuing a dual degree in computer science and data science and was a part of the prestigious John Martinson Honors College.

Earlier this year, a horrific attack claimed the life of Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old Indian man who was studying for his master’s degree in Georgia. Saini was working at a store when a homeless man entered and assaulted him with a hammer. The brutal incident, in which the assailant struck Saini 50 times, was recorded on video.
Last week, another Indian student, Shreyas Reddy, was discovered dead in Cincinnati, Ohio. The cause of his death is still unknown, but the Indian mission in New York said that there was no evidence of foul play at this point.
